README.GENEX file

The file GENEX.BCK.gz contains the Genexpert program package from
Kurt Stueber and Ulrich Grob from the Max-Planck-Institute fuer
Zuechtungsforschung, Cologne.

To access the Genexpert program system (including the program
FALTUNG for the prediction of RNA secondary structures) you 

1. ftp to ftp.mpiz-koeln.mpg.de

2. log in as ftp or anonymous

3. go to the subdirectory  /pub/vms/genex

4. you will find the following files:

README.GENEX (this file)
GENEX_BCK.gz (the programs, sources + executables + documentation)
GUNZIP.EXE   (GNU unzip program for VAX/VMS, not AXP VMS)

5. Transfer GENEX_BCK.gz and GUNZIP.EXE in binary mode to your VAX.
  
6. Use GUNZIP to uncompress the GENEX_BCK.gz file:

   $ run GUNZIP.EXE /INPUT=GENEX_BCK.gz /OUTPUT=GENEX.BCK

7. Unpack it with:

backup/list/log GENEX.BCK/save_set [mydir...]

The main directory contains the file login.com with 
has to be executed before the programs are to be used.
Take a look into this file and adapt the path names to
your local needs.



Copyright of the programs belongs to the Max-Planck-Society, Germany.

The programs and data in the Genexpert package are free to be copied 
as long as this copyright statement is distributed together with the
programs.

The programs may not be sold or otherwise commercially used or be 
used as part of commercial programs.
