Hi GCGers -
Last week I complained about eXodus with GCG's new GUI WPI. Since then I had a
chance to check out Apple's MacX. In my opinion (all standard disclaimers
hold), MacX is much easier to use and is plenty robust for the task at hand.
It installed quickly and intuitively. Windows appear in appropriate sizes and
places on the screen. Everything seemed to work as promised. The only problem
that I came across was a need to double the program's memory from 1500 to 3000K
in order to prevent a "serious memory allocation failure has forced an X11
client application to be killed" error message. All together a quite different
experience compared to trying to work with eXodus. I'm still not overly
thrilled with WPI, but at least with MacX, one is not constantly frustrated
with the server software making the connection.
Have a good day - Steve Thompson
p.s. be sure to launch WPI with the /Small option on most personal class
computers.
