The following postdoctoral position is available immediately at the
Complex Carboydrate Research Center, University of Georgia, Athens, GA:

POSTDOCTORAL POSITION: STRUCTURAL ANALYSIS OF SINORHIZOBIUM
LIPOPOLYSACCHARIDES AND EVALUATION OF THE STRUCTURAL FEATURES REQUIRED
FOR SYMBIOTIC INFECTION
The University of Georgia Complex Carbohydrate Research Center (CCRC)
has an immediate opening for a POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH ASSOCIATE to
conduct research on the cell surface lipopolysaccharides (LPS) from
Sinorhizobium, a major symbiont of legumes. The LPS are dominant
surface antigens of these bacteria and are believed to play a key role
in the process of nitrogen fixation. The long term goal of this
research is to determine which LPS structural features are essential for
proper symbiotic infection, and to determine if LPS structural
alterations, which occur during differentiation, help determine host
range/specificity. Structural analysis of these glycoconjugates
involves the use of mass spectrometry (electrospray ionization,
MALDI-TOF, FAB) and standard 2D NMR analyses of the intact molecules and
their subunits, in addition to specific chemical methods of
polysaccharide degradation and derivatization in combination with GLC-MS
and HPLC techniques. Candidates should have some previous experience
with at least one of these techniques, in addition to a strong interest
in the structure/function of glycoconjugates. Experience with all of
these techniques is not a prerequisite. Support is available for
approximately a 3 year period, and the salary will be based on previous
training and experience. Please send a letter of application, names and
addresses of three references, and a current Curriculum vitae to Dr.
Lennart Scott Forsberg, Complex Carbohydrate Research Center, The
University of Georgia, 220 Riverbend Road, Athens, Georgia, 30602-4712,
USA. Position open until filled. An EEO/AA institution.

Thank you,

Scott Forsberg
