An NIH-funded postdoctoral research position is currently available in my
laboratory at the Wadsworth Center, NY State Department of Health, Albany
NY, to study various aspects of glycoprotein glycan biosynthesis and
processing using different yeasts as a model system. Projects include,
but are not limited to, purification and characterization of novel sugar
transferases, purification and structural assignment of N- and O-linked
glycans from yeast mutants defective in oligosaccharide processing steps,
heterologous expression of sugar transferases and their subcellular
localization and effect on normal host-cell glycan modelling, and
metabolic studies on the synthesis of unique charged-group epitopes
present on yeast glycans.

Located at the foothills of the Adirondak Mountains, the Wadsworth Center
is a modern, fully-equipped research facility, which includes 500 and 600
MHz NMR spectrometers, a MS core facility, biological imaging facility
(scanning and transmission EM, image reconstruction, and 3D confocal),
fully instrumented biochemistry core, bioinformatics group (developing new
algorithims to search for hidden DNA sequence information), and extensive
reference library facilities. We are affiliated with the SUNYA School of
Public Health and Albany Medical College academic programs.

Candidates with a background in chemistry, yeast cell biology, or
glycobiology (molecular biology a plus) are encouraged to submit a letter
of interest along with a CV and the names of three references to:
