VACANCY IN GLYCOPROTEIN GLYCAN ANALYSIS

The research program of the Carbohydrate Section of the Department of
Bio-Organic Chemistry, Bijvoet Center for Biomolecular Research at Utrecht
University, The Netherlands (Prof.dr J.F.G. Vliegenthart and Prof.dr J.P.
Kamerling), is focused on the primary / three-dimensional structure
analysis of glycoprotein glycans and polysaccharides, (bio)synthesis of
oligosaccharide sequences, and interaction studies between carbohydrates
and proteins.
We like to announce the following vacancy, which is immediately available:
A Ph.D position for a project entitled "Glycosylation patterns on
heterologous proteins produced in the mammary gland of transgenic animals".
The project is financially supported by the Technology Foundation STW,
applied science division of NWO, and the technology program of the Ministry
of Economic Affairs. In the aimed glycan structural analyses of transgenic
glycoproteins a multiple of approaches will be followed, e.g. chemical and
enzymatic cleavage procedures for glycoprotein glycans,
carbohydrate-specific chemical derivatisation protocols, chromatographic
techniques, NMR spectroscopy and mass spectrometry. Specific attention will
be paid to the development of fast screening procedures for transgenic
glycoprotein derived glycan ensembles. The whole program will be carried
out in collaboration with Pharming Technologies BV. At the end of the term
a thesis leading to a doctorate at Utrecht University has to be prepared.
