effect of tunicamycin

Thu Feb 1 17:20:57 EST 1996

Dr. Nozomu Koizumi asked:
Dear fellow researchers,
Does anyone know about the effect of tunicamycin to the expression of GPT
(N-acetylgucosamine-1-phosphate transferase)? It is well known that
tunicamycin blocks N-linked glycosylation by inhibiting GPT activity and
induces the expression of ER chaperones such as BiP. However I do not know
effect of tunicamycin to the GPT expression. If there is any article,
please let me know.
Thanks in advance.

Sharon Krag's group overexpressed GPT in S. pombe and found to increase the
resistance to tunicamycin 25-fold. See Zou J et al: Arch. Biochem. Biophy.
