>From Structure to Molecular Biology
2-13 SEPTEMBER 1996
sponsored by
EUROPEAN MOLECULAR BIOLOGY ORGANIZATION
and
CENTRE NATIONAL DE LA RECHERCHE SCIENTIFIQUE
UNIVERSITE DES SCIENCES ET TECHNOLOGIES DE LILLE
The Laboratoire de Chimie Biologique (UMR n° 111 of CNRS/USTL) of the
Université des Sciences et Technologies de Lille organizes an
Advanced-Course on Glycoconjugates entitled « Glycoconjugates : from
Structure to Molecular Biology ». The main goals are to give the
participants a comprehensive review on structure, metabolism and roles of
carbohydrates as well as a practical approach of the main methodologies and
strategies in glycan analysis and glycobiology.
Morning sessions will be devoted to lectures given by the following
well-known scientists :
A. DELL (London, GB), H. EGGE (Bonn, D), R. GEYER (Giessen, D), B. HOFLACK
(EMBL, Heidelberg, D), R.C. HUGHES (London, GB), D. JOZIASSE (Amsterdam,
NL), L. LEHLE (Regensburg, D), U. LINDAHL (Uppsala, SW), J. MONTREUIL
(Villeneuve d'Ascq, F), M. MONSIGNY (Orléans, F), Ph. ROUSSEL (Lille, F), K.
SANDHOFF (Bonn, D), H. SCHACHTER (Toronto, CDN), R. SCHAUER (Kiel, D), J.
SHAPER and N. SHAPER (Baltimore, USA), N. SHARON (Rehovot, Israël), D. Van
den EIJNDEN (Amsterdam, NL), J.F.G. VLIEGENTHART (Utrecht, NL), G. WALKER
(Cambridge, USA).
Lab-works will be organized in the afternoon and will cover the following
topics :
Determination of the monosaccharide content of glycans.
Chromatographic procedures for glycan fractionation.
Chemical and enzymatic deglycosylation procedures.
Use of glycosidases for structural analysis of glycans.
Carbohydrate analysis by methylation and mass spectrometry.
Carbohydrate analysis by NMR.
Lectins as tools for glycan separation and structural analysis.
Glycosyltransferase assays.
