Cell surface versus luminal glycoproteins?

Is anything known concerning the ratio of N-glycosylated membrane proteins
in the cell membrane relative luminal membranes? This has relevance when
glycoproteins are purified from whole cell lysates. My concern is with the
ratio in the supernatant fraction from a standard homogenisation/low speed
centrifugation fractionation. I would expect this ratio to be rather high,
but would appreciate your input. I work on Drosophila melanogaster, but
data (or opinions) for any organism would be greatly appreciated.

Sincerely

Christer Ericsson
