Binary factor notation allows representing loci with codominant and
dominant mode (full penetrance) of inheritance while 'allele numbers'
notation is good only for codominant loci. Few people use binary factor
notation, they either use allele numbers for codominant loci, or
'affection status' notation for dominant loci (complete or incomplete
penetrance). The main reason why binary factor notation is used is
probably that CEPH's database is in that notation.
