The Faculty of Medicine is a part of Lund University, and is responsible for education and research within medicine and healthcare. Our academic programs are closely linked with the healthcare system and are firmly anchored in the faculty's strong research tradition. Our research spans a broad field within experimental preclinical research, near-patient clinical research and health sciences research. The Faculty of Medicine, with its 1,800 employees and 2,700 students in Lund and Malm, is a knowledge-intensive meeting place for students, teachers and researchers from all over the world.

The research unit for Molecular Medicine, Regeneration, Replacement and Repair in Cancer at the Division of Oncology and Pathology is looking for a post-doctoral candidate with a recently obtained PhD in a cell biology related field.

The lab investigates the molecular mechanisms by which the physical and biochemical environment in our body affect cellular functions and get misregulated in cancer. We are currently looking for a candidate who will conduct research investigating the role of the tumor extracellular matrix in regulating metabolism pathways in cells. Specifically, the candidate will investigate the role of the mechanical characteristics of the matrix on integrin activation and its effects on regulating canonical metabolism pathways including AMPK and mTor pathways. Using a combination of biophysical approaches and microscopy, the candidate will decipher the mechanisms by which cancer cells upregulate certain pathways in response to changing environments. This study will help discover novel pathways and therapeutic strategies in targeting cancer metastasis.

The main duties involved in a post-doctoral posistion is to conduct research. Teaching may also be included, but up to no more than 20% of working hours. The position shall include the opportunity for three weeks of training in higher education teaching and learning.

PhD in any of the following/related fields: Cell Biology, Cancer Biology, Biomedicine, Physiology, Clinical Sciences, Biophysics is required.

The candidate should have experience with the following techniques: Cell culture of cell lines and primary cultures, Cellular biochemistry, PCR, qPCR, RT-PCR, Fluorescence microscopy, ELISA, Cloning and transfection, Bioinformatics. In addition, the candidate must have contributed to atleast 2 scientific publications during their PhD period.

Candidate with a Bachelor degree which includes a thesis project in biological sciences is preferred. Presentations at International scientific conferences and mentoring of students is meritorious..

The applicant is expected to be an independent thinker, team player with self-Confidence/Self-motivated and organized task manager.

Appointment to a post-doctoral position requires that the applicant has a PhD, or an international degree deemed equivalent to a PhD, within the subject of the position, completed no more than three years before the last date for applications. Under special circumstances, the doctoral degree can have been completed earlier.

This is a career development position primarily focused on research. The position is intended as an initial step in a career, and the assessment of the applicants will primarily be based on their research qualifications and potential as researchers.
