Evidence of continuing professional development is increasingly
important to scientists planning a career move, whether this is to be a
promotion or a change in direction. However, work and family
commitments can make it difficult for many people to take time away to
gain the new skills that they need.

Online courses can provide a solution. At the University of Manchester
we have over 10 years experience in running interactive online courses
specifically designed for biologists needing to update their skills
while remaining in the workplace
(http://octette.cs.man.ac.uk/bioinformatics/students/index.html). The
courses are also very suitable for those interested home study, helping
you to keep in touch with a research environment during a career break.

The courses running next semester, starting in October 2009, include:

Introduction to Bioinformatics
Bioinformatics for Systems Biology
Introduction to software development in Java
Theory and Applications in Bioinformatics

You will find further information, including fees and a link to the
online application form, here :

questions, or need advice on the module options, please contact
