The BIOFORUM/bionet.general mailing list/newsgroup is up and running
at GenBank and Daresbury, but there still seems to be a problem at
IRLEARN. Nonetheless the group may be used in the interim until the
situation at IRLEARN is resolved (distribution to IRLEARN from
GenBank is temporarily turned off).

BIOFORUM is an open newsgroup for discussions about any biological
topic which does not already have a dedicated BIOSCI/bionet newsgroup.
If you enjoyed the previous discussions on BIONEWS, you should sign up
for BIOFORUM if you need postings by e-mail (see below). If you
desire only to receive announcement messages, then you need do nothing
because your e-mail subscription is already effect on
BIONEWS/bionet.announce and you will only receive BIOFORUM e-mail
messages if you request them.

If you use USENET news software, simply participate in bionet.general.

If you need an e-mail subscription, please note that previous e-mail
subscribers to BIONEWS were ***NOT*** automatically subscribed to
BIOFORUM. You must request a subscription by mailing to one of the
following addresses:

In the U.K. or in sites connected to JANET, send your request for an
e-mail subscription to biosci at uk.ac.daresbury.
In the Americas or the Pacific Rim countries, send your request for an
e-mail subscription to biosci at genbank.bio.net.

If you are in Europe, Africa or Central Asia, please wait for my
posting of instructions for using the LISTSERV software at IRLEARN.
The group is still not operational at this site but should be so

The addresses to post messages to the newsgroup are:

bioforum at genbank.bio.net
bioforum at uk.ac.daresbury
bioforum at irlearn.ucd.ie ( <---- not yet operational)

Please use the biosci addresses listed above to request e-mail
subscriptions; please DO NOT send subscription requests to the
newsgroup posting addresses.
