Projects: IOP-Genomics Brassica Nutrigenomics, BSIK-Bioassist
Background
These projects will develop the biology-centered bioinformatics
resources, i.e., biologically relevant mathematical models, methods,
algorithms and software. You will develop information systems that allow
applied researchers to comprehensively analyze their genetical genomics
data and reconstruct and visualize the regulatory, metabolic and
developmental pathways. You will be part of a young, motivated team and
use cutting-edge information technologies to keep ahead in this dynamic
area, including code-generation, computing clusters, systematic reuse,
and web-services.
Next to your research you will be a part of a group of engineers
creating an information infrastructure for the GBiC-group. As such you
will act as the spokesperson, who will be able to translate the
biological problems to practical software solutions.

Required education/skills
You are a university graduate (at the diploma or master of science
level) in Bioinformatics or Computer Science. When you have a degree in
Computer Science you should have relevant experience in the field of
Bioinformatics. You are expected to have an excellent academic record
(demonstrated by a list of examination marks from your university study)
and be curious, creative, autonomous and ambitious.
You should be able to gain insight (where necessary) into the relevant
Life Sciences domains (e.g., genomics, bioinformatics, biomedical and
biotechnological applications). Knowledge of programming languages is
required, including Java, PHP, C++, Python and Perl. Furthermore, you
should be fluent in the English language and eager to communicate your
work both orally and in written form in scientific articles. Experience
with business management and design, production line management,
operations research, project management, databases, information systems
and design, (legacy) integration and internet applications is a clear
advantage.

Conditions of employment of Software Engineer position
A salary dependent on qualifications and work experience up to a maximum
of 3472 euros gross a month for a full time and 8% holiday allowance and
participation in a pension scheme for government employees.
Employment basis: Temporary for specified period.
Duration of the contract: three years.
Maximum hours per week: 38.
