When there is coregulation of i.e. a transcription factor, or of any
component in a network (mRNA, proteins,etc.), is it ever the case that a
Boolean OR function is implemented? Does someone have an example? The
"lazy" assumption to make about Boolean logic in natural networks is of
course that ALL coregulators (i.e. inputs) need to be active in order to
turn on the output. I suspect, but do not have any data to support my
suspicion, that OR, and possibly also XOR, and possibly also other
Boolean functions may be at work. I say this after having subtracted out
the effects of inhibition versus activation, which can be accounted for
by a simple logical inversion.
