The Department of Computing Science is seeking to appoint an experienced researcher who has already demonstrated research leadership and has a proven track record in some
aspects of bioinformatics or biomedical informatics. The University would welcome applicants whose speciality lies anywhere on a very broad spectrum of bioinformatics or
biomedical informatics, taking the broadest interpretations of those subjects. We use the phrase "biomedical informatics" to denote this full range of possibilities.
The appointee will provide a major leadership role in developing multidisciplinary research and related facilities, in the Department, in the Faculty of Computing Science,
Mathematics and Statistics, and in the wider University, particularly in the Faculties of Biomedical and Life Sciences, Medicine and Veterinary Medicine. The appointee will play
a major role in developing a Centre for Biomedical Informatics Research and may become its Director.
The post is a Professorial appointment at an appropriate salary subject to negotiation. The successful applicant will be expected to lead research. Preference will be given to
applicants whose research interests complement the existing research strengths of the University and link with research in the Department. There will also be opportunities to
teach other topics in Computing Science, if appropriate.
