phred vs ABI on 3700 data

Ever since the 3700 came out the fellow who runs our sequencing facility
has been claiming that the
ABI software calls on those traces are more accurate than those by
phred. Yet the genome
labs still seem to be using phred, which might suggest that phred is
more accurate.

Does anybody have some hard data that will resolve this issue?

I don't really care which way it turns out, but I do want to know the
answer so that we can make a rational decision about which set of calls
to serve up to the end users. And let's hope it isn't the first 100
bases are bettter for one and the remaining bases for the other!
