Hello-
I am running Solaris 8 on an Intel machine with 1gig RAM and 1 gig of
swap space.
I am running a lot of blast searches. For those who don't know this
involves searching DNA queries of 300-3000 characters against flat file
databases of up to 3gigs.
After running several of these searches my machine starts thrashing.
Sometimes it gets so bad that the machine will freeze for up to half an
hour. Even after it unfreezes performance is very poor.
When this is happening I get various messages telling me I am out of
swap space and out of memory.
Any Suggestions? Any virtual memory tuning I can do?
Thanks in advance...
Dan
