A good KILL file will eliminate most of the spam.
Mine eliminates every post with 2 exclamation marks or the words cash,
money, or sex in the subject.
Most newsreaders support some sort of KILL file.
Similar filters exist for mail-lists. I use SpamBeGone, which uses a
neural network to learn which messages you want to eliminate. Highly
recommended.
