Biological Database Developer (Ref # 98-002)

The National Partnership for Advanced Computational Infrastructure (NPACI)
as administered by the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) has an
immediate opening in the Computational Biology Group to work in the area
of biological database development. We have previously developed a
Property Object Model (POM) approach for representing biological data
(CABIOS, 1997, 13:487-496). The objective is to extend the model and
provide tools for users to maintain their own databases covering a variety
of biological data either on their own client or as a personal virtual
database on an NPACI server. The ideal candidate will have at least an MS
in Computer Science or a PhD in molecular biology and preferably be
comfortable in both disciplines. A knowledge of C++, Java and Perl
programming is essential.

The successful candidate will be located at the San Diego Supercomputer
Center (SDSC) on the UCSD campus in beautiful La Jolla. The initial
appointment will be for one year starting immediately. Salary will be
commensurate with experience. For further information or to apply contact
(preferably by email) Prof. Philip E. Bourne, San Diego Supercomputer
Center, University of California 9500 Gilman Drive 0505, La Jolla, San
Diego CA 92093-0505 (bourne at sdsc.edu; Fax: (619) 534-5113), providing a
CV and the names of three references. Relevant URLs are:
