Apple still has around 9% of the total PC market which is nip and tuck
with Compaq (I think) for the biggest single manufacturer share. With the
licensing of the OS to third parties, the overall number of MacOS systems
can only rise. Apple as a manufacturer may go away, but I reckon the OS
will survive.
As far as development goes, if Java ever lives up to the hype then this
issue may disappear. I'm not holding my breath over that one though.
