Ken Clark, Washington University, St. Louis, has written DNA-GUI, a
DNA graphical user interface. This extremely impressive program
reads graphical representations of gels (e.g., in TIFF format)
and (among other goodies) offers lane and band identification and, given
two or three marker lanes places appropriately, spatial normaliaztion of
gels, in addition to calculation of the molecular weights of all the
unknown bands. DNA-GUI is available in C source code (!) and runs under
X Window (X11R5 and - with a very minor modification - X11R6); the
WWW site for this fine tool (many thanks to Ken Clark an everybody
else involved in writing this program and making it available publicly!)
is
                http://ibc.wustl.edu/bcl/DNAGUI/dnagui_sftwr.html

The sources (and the minor patch needed for Linux/X11R6) are also
available from ftp://ftp.rhrz.uni-bonn.de/pub/institute/meb/molbio.

A Linux version can be found at
      ftp://ftp.rhrz.uni-bonn.de/pub/institute/meb/molbio/linux

Best regards,

Ernst
