I had the same problem;
check out : ftp://ulrec3.unil.ch/pub/boxshade/3.2/
for the distribution versions, and
ftp://ftp.otago.ac.nz/pub/biochemistry/boxshad
for what I presume is the solaris binary that Dr. Sanger has made.
A port to C++ or Java would be a useful move for this excellent program.
