CCd cameras enable the direct capture of ethidium bromide stained gels without photography but flat bed scanners
give higher resolution and are cheaper if you have a photograph, autorad or visibly stained gel.
For software also consider for the Pc: GelManager and GelCompar and for the Mac: Dendron
