Updating databases

This  is about  the database  distribution  system:

Do the EMBnets  use  this new software (?  protocol)  at the moment
(was  this the one  presented  at a meeting in Chester UK?)

If  so, is this software adaptable  such  that anyone who has a 
hassel "customer" could  ping the EBI periodically to see  what  it  needs
(ie, can the customer tell the  EBI  that it is only interested in
EMBL and  PRODOM but nothing  else)? Do  "customers" have  to  registered
at the site  they are  going to  query or  can they  be entirely 
independant...

If that's the case, then would a solution  be  for everyone to use this
system (ie, can the  software  deal  with automatic updates  into 
different  formats or is each site user  going to have some shell for
each database transmitted).

I'm just curious...
