Network pairwise alignment servers - do any exist?

I am giving a "lecture" on network resources in the VSNS course on
sequence analysis. One goal of my lecture is to make available to
students network resources needed by all of the other "lecturers" in the
course. One resourse we have been unable to locate is a server for
alignment of two input sequences; something equivalent to the GCG program
"bestfit".

We are aware of the things like the blast and fasta servers, that do
pairwise alignments as part of a search of a database by one input
sequences, and of multiple alignment servers.

Does anybody know of such?

Thanks!
