DESCRIPTION
This is a package of three programs which allows you to perform the test for
constancy in the evolutionary rates by Adell and Dopazo (1994) based on branch
lengths. The programs have been developed to be used together with the PHYLIP
(Felsentein, 1993) package (indeed, at least FITCH and KITSCH programs are
necessary). The aim was to make accessible, in an easy way, this test within the
framework provided by the PHYLIP package.
THE TEST
The idea of the test is to simulate a large number of evolutionary processes
corresponding to the proposed model and then to construct the statistical distribution
of the desired parameters, in this case the branch lengths. After, a tree is reconstructed
without the constraints imposed by the model and it can be checked whether the
observed branch length values fall within the expectations of the model or not. The test
