In my biology classes we have used quite a bit of software by "BioQuest"
to supplement our lab experiments. One example is in the simulation of
crossing Drosophila to explore genetics. The program, Genetics
Construction Kit (GCK) accurately simulates actual crosses. We are also
doing actual crosses, but the computer program allows us to learn more in
a shorter period.
Other programs that we have used from BioQuest include:
SequenceIt! >> A program for sequencing proteins, a usually
time-consuming and expensive task.
IHL >> A program that demonstrates various aspects of the human heart.
It demonstrates the pressure changes in different chambers of the heart.
BioMetrics >> A program that gives a hyper-introduction to biometrics.
RateIt! >> A program that simulates experiments in enzyme kinetics.
Forget the name >> a program that shows population growth. It includes a
plague function that simulates AIDS pretty well.
