For sure, if the program uses gl, then its output can't be displayed on an 
X-terminal. This is a recurrent problem with SGI stations since some of 
their applications are based on gl, not on X-windows. This is the case, for 
example, with the full-screen editor JOT which comes with Irix: it is based 
on gl and can't be used with an X-terminal...
