The Metrowerks Codewarrior environment is an excellent choice, esp. if you
are a non-profit educational environment. Their Gold release will give you
C and C++ on both the 680x0 and native PowerPC Macs as well as Pascal on
680x0 Macs (PowerPC late in year). Cost $99 if you are educational.
Excellent product that appears to be wiping out Symantec this year from the
discussions on c.s.m.p. Metrowerks developers are on Internet and regularly
assist/comment on problems with their product (unlike Symantec). Obtain
from BookMasters in the States ($50 pp required). If you buy now, you'll
get release 3 and two further upgrades (releases 4 and 5) due before
end-1994. All releases and docs on CDROM.
I have found Mac programming to be VERY different from supermini/mainframe
environments and very difficult to switch initially, mainly because of the
sheer amount you have to know before being able to do anything meaningful
with the interface. Probably, your Windows experience will help.
