If you can get your hands on a relatively new mac, I have a semi-free
program called Spike Studio that will collect data from the microphone
input (which is pretty good on newer macs - 16 bit samples at up to 50
kHz), and then has simple averaging routines (which I might be able to
expand if you had specific requests, or you could spit the data out to
a stats package). You can find Spike Studio on various anonymous ftp
sites (sumex-aim, etc.).
