It may be the "dFLASH" service that you are looking for.

You can look up past bionet articles on DFLASH by visiting the
IUBio Gopher server (gopher ftp.bio.indiana.edu), and open
Network-News/, query the  Bionet News at IUBio archive <?> item for
dflash

Here is a brief selection from their help document:

   The dFLASH server is a "homologous sequence retrieval" program for protein
sequences (see also NOTES below). 

   You can use the dFLASH facilities by sending an email message to

                        "dflash at watson.ibm.com"
   
TO OBTAIN HELP:

    You can obtain this message at any moment by sending a message with one of:
{ dflash, dFlash, dFLASH, DFLASH } in the "Subject" line and a body containing
