The newest version of the coiled-coil prediction software (COILS v.
2.1) can
be downloaded by anonymous ftp from the VMS folder of the server
ALF.BIOCHEM.
MPG.DE. The program is described in the documentation file COILS2.DOC.
The
programs run on Vax/VMS and are written in Vax Pascal. The newest
release
allows the user to score sequences with two matrices: one containing
myosins,
tropomyosins and keratins, and the other containing myosins,
tropomyosins,
all intermediate filaments, desmosomal proteins and kinesins. In
addition,
the user can choose to weigh the core positions (a,d) as strongly as
the coat
positions (b,c,e,f,g), which serves to detect some false positives.
The VMS
folder also contains prereleases for programs scoring potential N- and
C-cap
residues using the frequencies compiled by Jane and Dave Richardson and
programs to get coiled coil predictions for multiple alignments.
