As I am new to the Bio-Soft group, I would like to introduce a
couple of ideas which I am interested in to get some feed back
from the group.

We have been carrying out research on the microbiological safety
of food processes, particularly the thermal processing of dairy
products. I have been interested in the use of computer software
as a technology transfer tool, and have recently written (using
VisualBasic) a small program which calculates the survival of
milk enzymes and food poisoning bacteria during pasteurization.
The user is required to enter only the time and temperature of
processing, and the program will calculate survival based on
computer models generated using our pilot plant processing
facilities. This program is freely available to anyone who is
interested, so please feel free to contact me.

In a more general sense, I am interested in using simple
programming to facilitate routine calculations, (particularly
directed at the food industry) and I would appreciate hearing
from anyone with similar interests. I would also welcome
comments on the use of VisualBasic or QuickBasic, other languages
which could be used, other programs similar to the one described
above, and any other areas which may be relevant.

I shall be looking forward to interacting with the Bio-Soft
group.
