Thanks for the help on books to get started in UNIX. I just purchased:
.
Unix for the impatient
by Paul Abrahams and Bruce A. Larsens
Addison-Wesley Publishing Company
1992
$29.25
.
A very concice reference guide with just enough explanation to get me through
most of what I am currently aware of in Unix, and indexed with common english
names of commands as well as by Unix names.
.
Unix in a Nutshell
by Daniel Gilly and Associates
O'Reilly and Associates
1986
$9.95
.
Essentially, this is nothing more than a listing of Unix commands and
associated switches with 1 line descriptions. It is extremely easy to use
if you know the name of the command you want to use, but don't know what
switches are appropriate. Kind of like like the "man" command, in print.
.
Other books I looked at were either too simplistic or too verbose for my
needs. Thanks to all who answered my question.
