I would like to recomendation for a good book on UNIX.
Our GCG was just moved to a Unix machine (Irix workstation) and I
now have to learn Unix for the first time. I am pretty comfortable with
computers, but my objective here is to spend as little time as possible to
learn the system, so I can spend as much time as possible generating data
to analyse on the system. There are lots of books in the library. I don't
want all of them, only 1. The book "Unix for the impatient" has been
recomended by a friend. Any comments/suggestions from the net?
Ideally, I would like a book that gives some breif text description
of the protocols, then lists commands and switches seperately. I find that
with this approach, I can read it once and then just refer to the lists
for a breif reminder.
Thanks.
