File transfer of Gromos topology files

Hello bionetters,

some colleagues without net access have asked me to bring the following
question to a greater audience:

They are working with GROMOS87 and would like to transfer the binary
molecular topology files from an IRIS running IRIX to a VAXstation
running VMS and vice versa by ftp. Neither uuencoding/uudecoding
nor zoo-ing the files before transfer has proven successful. They
suspect that the problems arise from the file format created by
GROMOS87 on the VAX:
File organization: Sequential
File attributes: Allocation: 528, Extend: 0, Global buffer count: 0
                    No version limit
Record format: Variable length, maximum 2044 bytes
Record attributes: None
RMS attributes: None

Does anybody have a solution for this problem?

Thanks a lot, Cornelius.
