You might like "flex" developed by Mike Pique et al. here at Scripps.
I find it quite reasonable on a monochrome SparcStation; and it runs
as an X client. I don't know whether it runs on the SGI, but it
does run on DecStations with MIPS chips.
You can get it by anonymous ftp from ftp.scripps.edu in the file
pub/flex.tar.Z. It is about 22 Megabytes.
