I _assume_ it might be GCG which this is referring to.

Frankly, I have no idea what this discussion is about. Certainly, Francis
does not have the GCG software package installed. We have GCG installed on
both VMS and UNIX platforms, and use it with 300+ users, paying one license
each for a multi-headed VAX cluster and a NIS/NFS UNIX cluster. The GCG on
UNIX can also be used to be run with several executables (SUN, SGI,DEC) from
one mounted version, due to its ability of getting recompiled. You get the
full source with GCG packages. Due to my ambition to write own extensions,
which is shared by many in the (advanced) user community, I very much
appreciate to have a stable version of a procedure library, and full source
to all code. Also, the devices to be adressed cover the range of installed
terminals and hardcopy facilities quite extensively.
With respect to the databases, I do not get these from GCG but we have an own
distribution system in the European Molecular Biology network (EMBnet).
We format any of the common databases or updates thereof into GCG format.
Non-common databases can be incorporated also, e.g., we have the Malaria
database from the WHO and could well integrate it.
I don't quote the prices I got from IG or GCG.
Price quotations from customers might be difficult to judge for accuracy.
consult at presto.ig.com for IG, and help at gcg.com for GCG package can give
