A very nice shareware program for MS-Windows is REFS 7.2.
It can be obtained from the Windows archive (ftp.cica.indiana.edu or mirrors).
The archived version has a limit of 100 references.
Registration is 30 british pounds.
The registered version handles my 3500 references easily.
what I like about REFS 7.2:
-- Windows cut & paste etc.
-- database is in a plain text format called "refer" style
"refer" style is compatible with UNIX refer program.
-- it is fast. Searches of my 3500 references occur in a few seconds.
-- can import references in medline and other formats
-- of course it can output to a variety of journal reference styles
(that you define yourself)
-- the author can be reached by e-mail, and listens to comments & suggestions.
