PIR RELEASE 32 available

The UH Gene-Server files have been updated with release 32 of
the PIR. Anonymous ftp for the ascii and vms version is available on
ftp.bchs.uh.edu in pub/gene-server/pir/pir_rel32/vms or
pub/gene-server/pir/pir_32/ascii. Login as "anonymous" and send your
e-mail address as the password. (NOTE: The VMS files include all the
index files required for V. 6 of the GCG software, but not version
7.x. There are programs available in GCG to produce the required
files; see the admin manual).

The UH PIR Gopher server is also updated with the PIR 32 files.

NEW PROGRAMS

There are many new programs on the Gene-Server; for Sparc machines,
GDE2.0 is in the Unix area. Some of the new files are also available
for anonymous ftp, but check ftp.bio.indiana.edu first.

USING THE UH GENE-SERVER

Start by sending the single word "HELP" to
        gene-server at bchs.uh.edu
from the Internet or
        gene-server%bchs.uh.edu at CUNYVM
from BITNET.

There are many areas on the Gene-Server, but each area has its own
HELP and INDEX files. For instance,
        SEND UNIX INDEX HELP
will send the index and help files from the Unix file area. Some other
areas are: HELPFILES, MAC, DOS, UNIX, VMS, ACCESSION, KEYWORD, MATRIX,
and more.

If there are problems with the Gene-Server or the UH Gopher please
send e-mail to gene-server-management at bchs.uh.edu (preferred) or
davison at uh.edu.
