Hi fellow Bioboids,
I got a few overseas requests asking where Speakquencer (a DNA/protein
speaker) can be got, kept getting bounced via email, so I'm posting here.
I got my copy from its author Christian E Fritze (fri0 at midway.uchicago.
edu), but you can pick it up at any of a number of FTP sites. I
believe that the latest version (1.4.1) exists at the MacSciTech archives
at ra.nrl.navy.mil in /MacSciTech/biology. Older versions are not nearly
as nice; the latest one allows you to change the speed of the talk-back
(small differences in speed make a huge difference in usability).
Versions also exist at Dapper Dan Davison's Gene-server at ftp.bchs.uh.
edu and at Dashing Don Gilbert's SuperFly server at ftp.bio.indiana.edu. I'm
sure that for European users, Rob (Greatest FTP site in the visible
universe) Harper's archive also has a copy (nic.funet.fi) and probably many
others (wuarchive.wustl.edu, wsmr-simtel20.army.mil, etc).
There also exists a Hypercard stack called Seqspeak that performs a
similar function, but requires Hypercard (>2.0) and, as a stack, is much
larger in size.
I tried archie to get a list of available sites, but got no hits - Is
there a reason why the above mentioned biobodacious archives are not on
their lists?
