A request was made for information about a program which does probit analysis
which was mentioned some months ago on this newsgroup.

A WAIS search turns up the following article which mentions probit
analysis, I hope this is what your looking for.

Best of Luck,

Dan Jacobson

We have received a number of requests for a PC-based
version of a bootstrapping program for the analysis of
binary stimulus-response / dose-response data. In psychophysics,
the program can be used to analyze psychometric functions, and
in biological assay, to analyze dose-response curves.
The program estimates the standard deviations and confidence
intervals of the threshold (= mean effective dose) and the
gradient (and 1/gradient) of a cumulative Gaussian
distribution fitted to the data. The bootstrap procedure
is superior to the traditional asymptotic methods of
probit analysis when applied to small-to-medium data
sets. Details are given in Foster, D.H. and Bischof, W.F.
(1991) "Thresholds from psychometric functions:
superiority of bootstrap to incremental and probit
variance estimators." Psychological Bulletin, 109, 152-
The PC-based version is written in Ansi C and should run
acceptably fast on a 286 with maths coprocessor or on an
equivalent machine.
Readers of this newsgroup would be welcome to have free copies
of the source code, test data, and readme files by email if
they contact either of us at the addresses below (or, if they
send a 5 1/4" DS, HD floppy disc, the executable version will
also be included).
Please contact the authors by email only. We both do not read
this newsgroup. Thank you.
