IUBio is doing around 4000 to 5000 gopher transactions per week
(a transaction is a file fetch, root connection or a query, all
that I log). This is roughly two times the number of ftp fetches
per week.
I am pleased to find that gopher is popular locally, as well as
around the world. More callers to this gopher come from Bloomington
than any other single location (thanks, John L. and others here).
Maybe this is due in part to the fact that I don't update the
gcg copy of genbank here more than twice a year, but gopher's is
updated weekly :)
By the way, IUBio now serves NCBI-Genbank release 74 (December 92),
for those of you who were asking. This genbank is the single
most popular file(s) served from IUBio gopher.
Rob Harper's csc.fi is the most popular non-US caller, probably
in part because csc has a public telnet login for gopher use.
