Communicating with to ABI 3100 Oracle database

I am responsible for the transfer of sequence requested data to the sequencer and sequence data transfer and analysis form the sequence to the researchers

We recently purchased an ABI 3100 and were told that only way to enter the names of samples directly into the computer connected to the sequencer.

Given that the system uses an oracle database and OrbixWeb to communicate (and that ABI sells a LIMS) I have to believe it is possible to transfer information directly into and out of the system.

Has anyone out there experimented with communicating with the database on the ABI 3100 either directly or though CORBA. If so what were your findings.
