The main issue is security.  The 3100 workstation is shipped with a
form-factor image, where there is no password for 'Administrator' or
'3100user', and only a minimal password for the user 'DNA' (this
username is used by the Instrument to obtain the firmware image via
FTP).  Once you put this one on a network, people will be able to
access every file on your workstation easily.

There are some things that can be done.  You can set your own unique
passwords for the system users, install a personal firewall, disable
file sharing via TCP/IP but leave it enabled via NetBEUI or IPX/SPX,
disable anonymous FTP access, etc.  A document describing these
concerns has been developed, and if you contact ABI tech support you
will be able to learn more about it.
