I think this is uncontentious and quite common knowledge. Also it does in
a small way support my argument - the longer a bit of DNA the more
variable it will be.
I have previously searched for microsatellite repeats and know from trial
and error that dinucleotide repeats are not worth testing for polymorphism
if they are <10 repeating units. There are so many CA repeats in the
genome why look at short ones which might be unproductive? the longer
ones are almost always variable.
