Global Deforestation

I am looking for any information about Global deforestation that is
available---particular problem countries
what has been done so far
	    suggestions for imporovements
	    worst case scenarios, etc...

In addition to the general world I am interested in how the Peoples Republic
of China views the problem and if they have any policies or suggestions for
 longterm help.

The PRC has been working on a biogas technology as a possible
substitute for consumer energy needs but as of yet it can only support 37
million people and irregularily at that.

Right now I see world population
trends as a major problem. Most of the countries with rain forests have large
populations, but no policy population control. This is particularly evident
with Gabon and its pop. of-1,172,000 and a 3.3% growth rate (doubling their
population in the next 21 years) or Brazil with pop.-150,368,000 and a 1.87
growth rate (much less but still doubling their population in 37 years).

If anyone has more information, insights, or possible sources, please let me
