acedb release 4_7g is now available on the ftp sites
 ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/repository/acedb
 ftp.sanger.ac.uk/pub/acedb
 ftp.crbm.cnrs-mop.fr/pub/unix/acedb

Code 4_7 is fully compatible with databases created by earlier acedb.4*
executable. But the code has many enhancements in particular:
1) It is much faster, becuase of a built in indexing system
that will take effect once you read-models
2) The main window is more friendly
3) The server support the new AcePerl interface (http://stein.cshl.org)
which can be used to create an acedb web site
Apart from that, since the ace,4_5 distribution of sept 97, a very large
number of enhancments of the different displays and modifications aiming
at easier configurability have been added

A number of programmers have contributed to this new release, the current
active team includes in alphabetic order Richard Durbin, Ed Griffiths,
Michel Potdevin, Lincoln Stein, Jean Thierry-Mieg and Fred Wobus.

Code 4_7 has been tested on dec-alpha, sgi, solaris, linux and is supposed to
run on any unix machine. A windows version should be available soon.

-------

A number of users have downloaded acedb.4_7a,b,c,d,e,f over the past few weeks.
This has allowed to clear a number of bugs that were only apparent on certain
platforms or under particular conditions. Code 7g is essentially the same as 7b
but we urge all users of these earleir subrelease to download 7g because it
fixes 2 important bugs, a memory leak during the alias command and a crash
when serving AcePerl gif documents, plus many minor glitches.
Thank you for the bug reports the efforts of testing an early version.

We expect version 4_7g to be stable on all platforms.

Jean Thierry-Mieg
