oopppss...sorry, just realised on rereading your mail that you were talking
about xace, not the aceclient/server....sorry.
The same comments almost apply however.....
You need to set up the database directory following the instructions in the file
wdoc/WRITE_ACCESS, note well the stuff about permissions for directories/files.
