Creation of PombePD

Hello yeast community,

Given the upcoming release of the S. pombe genome, I am writing to let
everyone know that Proteome, Inc. is now building a curated database of
S. pombe literature equivalent to YPD, our curated database of S.
cerevisiae literature.

The new database will be called PombePD and, as with YPD, will be
formatted as a single protein report for each characterized and
predicted protein. It will include all the features of YPD, including
At-A-Glance information on the function, role, and molecular properties
of every protein, as well as the extremely detailed annotation section
containing experimental results curated directly out of the literature.

New to PombePD is the addition of an expanded Mutant Phenotype property
that will allow you to quickly see the phenotypes of mutants up in the
At-A-Glance section, as well as continuing to allow you to get the
detailed results in the annotation section of the same name. As with
most of the elements of the At-A-Glance section, this new property will
be searchable and will allow us to generate an index of all genes whose
mutant forms yield common phenotypes.

If you are a pombe researcher and you haven't yet used YPD, please visit
the site at http://www.proteome.com/databases to prepare yourself for
using PombePD. As many cerevisiae researchers can attest, YPD has
greatly facilitated basic research into budding yeast, and we very much
hope that PombePD will similarly facilitate research into fission yeast!

Please feel free to contact me with questions or interest,

Jodi Lew-Smith
